Fold formed copper and sterling silver fill metalwork Byzantine chainmaille bracelet

Only 1 available

Starting with a sheet of copper, I folded, hammered, and heated it in a process known as fold forming. This bracelet features a fold forming technique called air chasing. The dents and folds were formed by pushing the metal with hammers so that it collapsed on itself.

Each copper squares measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch high and has been oxidized to enhance the design. The squares are connected together with silver fill* rings woven in a chainmaille pattern known as Byzantine. The bracelet connects together with a sterling silver hammered toggle clasp.

*Silver filled metal is made by heat bonding a thin layer of sterling silver to a brass core. The ratio of silver to brass by weight is 5%. Silver fill will tarnish just as sterling silver does. It will not turn black, flake off, or scratch off. You can see the brass layer only on the cut ends of the rings.
